First edition of Jez Butterworth's Mojo

Jez Butterworth
First edition. 8vo. 85 pp. Pictorial wraps. Nick Hern in Association with the Royal Court Theatre.
"You know Beryl? She goes to me tonight, she goes, 'When Silver Johnny sings the song my pussyhair stands up'... I see these girls. Shaking like they hate it. It's voodoo." In the late '50s Soho Club scene, seedy low-lifers hustle for the big time, by fighting for control over the latest rock 'n' roll sensation.
Author's first play. Winner of numerous awards, including the 1996 Laurence Olivier for Best New Comedy. Premiered at the Royal Court Theatre, London, on 14th July 1995, in a production directed by Ian Rickson. A 1997 film adaptation, written and directed by Butterworth, featured the playwright Harold Pinter. Author went on to pen Jerusalem (2009), The River (2012), and The Ferryman (2017), amongst many other plays. "[O]ne of the most dazzling Royal Court main stage debuts in years." Time Out
