A retrospective selection of work, made by the poet himself, comprising six previously published volumes, from Zoom! (1989) through to the millennium-commissioned poem, Killing Time (1999). Known for his deadpan delivery, Armitage's formally assured, often darkly comic poetry is influenced by his predecessors, Ted Hughes, W.H. Auden, and Philip Larkin. Appointed Poet Laureate in 2019, he is currently professor of poetry at the University of Leeds, a post he took up after completing his four-year elected stint (2015–19) to the chair of Oxford Professor of Poetry.
