Translated from the Polish by Stanisław Barańczak and Clare Cavanagh, joint winners of the 1996 PEN Translation Prize. Recipient of the 1996 Nobel Prize in Literature. Szymborska's definitive, complete collection of poetry, including 164 poems in all, as well as the full text of her Nobel acceptance speech of December 7, 1996, "The Poet And The World". Krzysztof Kieślowski's "Three Colors: Red" film was inspired by Szymborska's poem, "Love At First Sight", anthologised here.
