Originally self-published by Terfle Books, Portland, Oregon, 1999, in a spiral-bound 2 vol., Writer's Proof Edition, limited to 1,000 copies. A trade wrappered issue followed in 2000 before title was picked up by Penguin Putnam for a "record sum received for a children's book", and brought out in a hardcover edition in 2002.
