Crazy Love. A Poem Cycle.

Presentation copy of Fred Kline's Crazy Love. A Poem Cycle.

Fred KlineFred R. Kline, 1939–2021

First edition. 12mo., [4], 36 pp. Stapled, yellow wrappers. Drawings and book design by the Author.
This copy is inscribed by Kline to Lawrence Durrell "in appreciation of his work", and dated in the year of its publication at Columbus, Ohio.
Author's second poetry collection, preceded by I, DODO: A Poem Cycle (1968). An art dealer and art historian by profession, Kline dedicated his career to identifying the creators of artworks that had somehow been unattributed, misattributed or misinterpreted.
An image of a baby's head credited to Italian artist Annibale Carracci (1560 – 1609) in a 2000 Christie's catalogue aroused his suspicions and he placed a bid. Securing the lot for $3,500, Kline set about proving his intuition correct as the model drawing for da Vinci's Infant Jesus and the Infant St. John. This uncovering of "the Holy Grail of art," culminated in a book-length description of his hypothesis in Leonardo's Holy Child, The Discovery of a Leonardo Da Vinci Masterpiece: A Connoisseur's Search for Lost Art in America (2016). The drawing is the first work by da Vinci to have surfaced in over a century.
In 1975, Poet Laureate Josephine Jacobsen invited Kline to record selections from his four books of poetry at the Library of Congress.
