Author's second collection of poetry, published in the Saltire Modern Poets series. His work owes much to the imagery of the rugged land and seascapes of his native north-east Scotland, suffused with a personal vision of the durable qualities of its people. Awarded an OBE in 1984, and in 1999, at the ripe old age of 90, he went on to win the Saltire Society's Scottish Book of the Year award for Pursuit.
