Adapted from the 1952 stage play Come On, Jeeves, co-written with Guy Bolton, this only Jeeves story narrated in the third person features the famed butler on secondment as general factotum to William Belfry, ninth Earl of Rowcester (rhymes with 'toaster'). Additionally, it is the only Jeeves novel in which his employer, Bertie Wooster, does not appear (though alluded to). Published a year later in the States by Simon & Schuster under the title The Return of Jeeves, the two editions retain textual differences including settings, proprietary names and chapter sequences. The U.S. printing was preceded by publication in the Long Island Sunday Press on 4 October 1953.
