First edition. 8vo. Pp. 464, [2]. Quarter-bound blue cloth over red paper-covered boards, lettered in gilt to spine; red endpapers. Author's signature blind-stamped to front board; deckled fore-edge. Jacket design by Paul Bacon, with "that fleeing cartoon figure from Catch-22 [this time] drawn wearing a businessman's chapeau and hurrying away with a cane", according to the author. 1/150,000 copies printed. A specially bound, signed issue, limited to 750 copies, was published contemporaneously.
