The 1974 National Book Award Co-Winner for Poetry. Composed in the author's notational style, and dedicated to Walt Whitman, this is Ginsberg's longest single collection, blending poetry, travel writing, radio news broadcasts, popular songs, newspaper headlines, personal experiences and viewpoints, imparting it a seamless, multi-layered and spontaneous effect. Many of the poems were initially composed while on the road, on an Uher Tape recorder, purchased with the financial help of Bob Dylan.
