Winner of the 2003 National Book Award for Poetry. The poet's first collection after his Pulitzer Prize-winning volume Repair, tackling subjects such as the loss of friends, the love of grandchildren and the receding memories of childhood. As in his previous volume, Williams often uses short lines (and short poems), a departure from the usual long lines that on occasion caused publishers to publish him in an oblong format. Author teaches in the Writing Program at Princeton University.
